Baked Ziti

Baked ziti with Italian sausage, a rich marinara sauce, and layers of ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan.
Ingredients
Produce
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
Meat & Seafood
- 1 (16-oz) package sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
Dairy & Eggs
- 1 (16 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 2 eggs
- 1 (8 oz) package fresh mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1 cup Parmesan cheese, shredded
Frozen
- 3 frozen garlic cubes
Pantry / Dry Goods
- 1 (16-oz) package ziti or rigatoni
- 2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp pepper
- 1 (14.5-oz) can diced tomatoes
Sauces & Condiments
- 1 (25-oz) jar marinara sauce
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta until al dente. Drain and return to the pot.
- Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the sausage and onion. Break apart the meat and cook until the onion is translucent and the meat is cooked through. Drain the excess grease.
- Add the Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, marinara, and tomato paste. Simmer for 3-5 minutes. Add into the large pot with the drained pasta and stir until combined.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta, egg, parsley, 1/2 of the mozzarella, and the Parmesan.
- Add 1/2 of the pasta to a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Top with the ricotta mixture, then the remaining pasta. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and bubbly.
